HOT SPRINGS Hot Springs County Medical Center’s sixth annual Children’s Health and Safety Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and will feature several new activities.
A variety of health and safety activities sponsored by hospital departments, local businesses and service organizations will be available. Activities from past years include the Smoke House, emergency vehicles, hay ride, sand art and face painting.
Among the new attractions scheduled are a teddy bear clinic and a haunted house.
For the teddy bear clinic, children are invited to bring their favorite teddy bear, stuffed animal or doll to the clinic for a checkup. Nurses will examine the special patients, treat any injuries or illness and present the child with a medical record for the patient. The haunted house will be set up in the lower level of the Professional Building and will be age appropriate for children.
Children are invited to wear their Halloween Costume for a contest scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The costumes will be judged in age-related groups and savings bonds will be awarded as prizes.
Halloween trick-or-treat bags will be given to children to carry as they visit the different informational and educational exhibits. A photographer will take pictures from 10-11:30 a.m.
and poses may be purchased for $5 each or two for $8. A concession stand will provide hot dogs and drinks for a minimal charge. All other activities are free.
Wal-Mart has donated a boy’s bicycle and a girl’s bicycle for a drawing at the close of the fair. The children need not be present to win.
The event will be held in the Professional Building next to the hospital and in the adjacent parking lot. Volunteers will be directing traffic to designated parking areas.
