UAPB shuns business boycott

Some graduates of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff say they are upset at the prices hotels are charging for homecoming weekend.

Individual alumni have worked to organize a boycott of hotels for the Oct. 24 weekend. Administrators at the university and the UAPB Alumni Association say they don't have a role in the boycott and that they do not endorse it.

Hotel operators say it is a standard practice to have higher rates when demand is at a peak. UAPB Chancellor Lawrence A. Davis Jr. says he wants alumni and other supporters to spend at local businesses to help the city's economy.
