Arkansas basketball schedule features tough non-conference slate
This article was published August 26, 2010 at 1:36 p.m.
FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas will open the season Nov. 18 at Bud Walton Arena against Grambling State, it was announced Thursday.
Nineteen of the Razorbacks' 30 games are scheduled to air on television, including at least five national broadcasts on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. The schedule features 13 teams that participated in the postseason last season.
“We have a very challenging non-conference schedule,” Arkansas Coach John Pelphrey said in a statement in a news release. “With UAB, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Texas and Texas A&M, it should be an exciting schedule for both our players and the fans. We have never shied away from putting together a difficult schedule and this year reiterates that. In regards to the SEC schedule, there are again a lot of challenges ahead of us. There are good players throughout this great league and our fans will get to see some of the best when we play Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia at home, to name a few."

Arkansas' non-conference schedule features three teams from the Big 12. The Razorbacks will face Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Texas before entering conference play Jan. 8 against Tennessee.
Arkansas will host Oklahoma on Dec. 1 and will travel to face Texas on Jan. 4. The Razorbacks will play Texas A&M on Dec. 18 in Dallas.
Arkansas will also host the Razorback Showcase, a set of four games to start the season. The Razorbacks will play Grambling State, Florida Gulf Coast, Southeast Missouri State and Alabama-Birmingham. The game against UAB on Nov. 26 will be played in Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.
“In order to meet these challenges, we will have to be very close and operate as a team. It will all start with pressure defense and we’ll have to be fast in transition. If we can do those things than I think that we will overachieve and based on the attitude and work ethic of our players I think that we will have an opportunity to do just that.”
Arkansas starts the season by playing six consecutive home games, including the trip to North Little Rock to face UAB.
The SEC Tournament will be held in Atlanta on March 10-13.
Arkansas begins its fall practices Oct. 15.
