Donation Account Open

POTTSVILLE — An account has been opened for Jordan Vinson of Cabot at Simmons First Bank. Vinson, 22, has been diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia and is a patient at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Vinson, a graduate of Pottsville High School, is the son of Dennis and Tina Vinson of London. Donations can be made to account No. 7198671 at any Simmons Bank location.

Poetry Workshop

CLINTON — There will be a poetry writing and performance workshop for high school students with Sue Pico from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Van Buren County Library. There will be a student presentation at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30. Space is limited to the first 20 students who register. For more information, call (501) 745-2100.

Eagle Tour

RUSSELLVILLE — Lake Dardanelle State Park will offer winter lake cruises for the best chance to see American bald eagles. Cruises will depart at 9 a.m. Many other birds will be in the area for viewing, including white pelicans, snow geese and osprey. Dress very warmly, as temperatures and winds are much more severe on the lake. Also, in case of inclement weather, call one hour before tour time for possible cancellations. Christmas Tree Pickup

RUSSELLVILLE — Boy Scout Troop 214 will provide pickup and disposal of Christmas trees in the Russellville area. Trees, with ornaments removed, will be picked up Thursday, Dec. 30, and Sunday, Jan. 2, as a fundraiser for the troop. Donations of a minimum of $5 can be placed in a plastic bag and attached to the tree. Trees can be left at the curb. To schedule a pickup, call (479) 857-7852. The Scouts will properly dispose of the trees. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used by local Scouts who will attend a High Adventure Sea Base Boy Scout camp in June.

Volleyball League Registration

RUSSELLVILLE — Registration for the adult mixed volleyball league will begin Monday, Jan. 3, and continue through 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14. The entry fee is $250. Teams must turn in a league entry form and entry fee when registering. The necessary forms are available at the Russellville Recreation and Parks Department Office or may be downloaded at www.eteamz.com/rsvlparksdepartment. Garden Club

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Garden Club meets at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Maumelle Senior Center, 550 Edgewood Drive in the lower level.

Chef Series

PETIT JEAN MOUNTAIN — The Saturday Chef Series classes on Saturday, Jan. 8, will focus on how to correctly prepare base stocks for soups from fish and shellfish, vegetables, mushrooms, chicken and beef, as well as how to prepare soups using seasonal ingredients. Classes will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2-5 p.m. at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute. For more information, call Terese Post at (501) 727-6423.
