LITTLE ROCK The legislative panel that oversees the Arkansas lottery is considering a move to reduce scholarship award amounts by 10 percent.
Under the proposal made Thursday, scholarships for students at four-year schools would dip from $5,000 to $4,500. Awards for community college students would fall from $2,500 to $2,250.
Legislators say there won't be enough money to sustain the current lottery-funded scholarship amounts.
The panel voted to delay a vote on the proposal until more information is available during the upcoming legislative session.

No thoughts of reducing the MILLIONS spent and wasted on college and University sports, eh? I mean some of that could and would surely fund scholarships for EDUCATION instead of scholarships for athletes.
I find it largely ironic that good money is wasted on chowder heads to play football, basketball and other sports under a program called "scholarships"... the first part of that word being 'scholar', which none of these morons will ever be!

Really? You are going to tell a kid we will pay 4,500 of your 5,000 tuition cost? Pretty soon it will be 4,000 and so on. Why don't they just cut some salary from the lottery director or other lottery personell? I would really like to see a story that details exactly what these people do all day and how much they make.

Yes, cut both: inflated salaries/athletic programs at all educational levels and also the lottery bureaucracy.

Corruption... I think the thing that angers me the most is that I'm not getting a dime from all this theft and misdirected, wasted funds!
When I went to college, there were 2 football geniuses in one of my Science classes, they laughed and talked all through any class they managed to show up for... they brought their pencils... nothing more and got B's... why? I asked and was told they were on the FOOTBALL team... oh.
Time to take education serously or just hand out bibles like some other moron once suggested.
