SATURDAY

Swearing-in Ceremony

SEARCY — The swearing-in ceremony for the city of Searcy’s newly elected officials will be held at 9 a.m. at the Searcy City Hall, followed by a reception. Judge Mark Pate will officiate at the ceremony.

SAME Café

SEARCY — The SAME Café will be open from 4-6 p.m. at the West Side Church of Christ, 709 W. Arch St. in Searcy. The SAME Café is open the first and third Saturdays of each month to anyone who would like a free warm meal.

WEDNESDAY

Master Gardener Program

BATESVILLE — The deadline to apply for an upcoming Master Gardener training program is Wednesday. The fee for the classes is $45, which includes books and other materials. Anyone interested in this training should obtain an application from the Independence County Extension Service, 1770 Myers St. in Batesville. Final selection of participants will be made from applications and interviews. Classes will begin Thursday, Feb. 3, and end Thursday, March 3. Four counties in the area will cooperate in conducting the classes — Izard, Independence, Sharp and Fulton. Upon completion of the training and Master Gardener certification, participants will be asked to donate 40 hours to help with community and educational projects. Kenya Safari Acrobats

BATESVILLE — Tickets are available for the Kenya Safari Acrobats’ performance scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. Hailing from the heart of Africa, the Kenya Safari Acrobats are a dance troupe that takes acrobatics to extremes. This performance is the third of four performances scheduled for this academic year and is a partnership between UACCB and First Community Bank. The remaining act, the Masters of Motown, will perform Monday, March 7. Individual show tickets are $10. Profits from the performances will assist in bringing future acts to town. Performances will be held in Independence Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 each evening, and performances will begin at 7. For more information, call (870) 612-2040.

Membership Banquet

CABOT — The Cabot Chamber of Commerce will host its annual membership banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at 38 Spirit Drive in Cabot. For more information, call (501) 843-2136.

Education Meeting

JACKSONVILLE — The Education Committee will meet from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at the Jacksonville Community Center. Derek M. Scott, Pulaski County Special School District executive director of operations, will be the guest speaker. He will discuss the 2020 Vision plan. The meeting is open to all Chamber members and any interested parties.
