Twisters now the Diamonds

The Twisters are now the Diamonds after the arena football team opted to change names instead of pay for the rights to keep the old one.

The team asked fans to send name suggestions via e-mail or through the team's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/arkansastwisters.

The team is planning a contest geared at children to name the mascot, a diamond miner.

The erstwhile Twisters chose to move to the Indoor Football League after the AF2 dissolved, but the AF1 told the Twisters they had to purchase the rights to their name if they wanted to continue using it.

The team could have bought the rights to the Twisters name from the AF1 or leased the name on a year-by-year basis.

The Diamonds' season opener is scheduled for Feb. 28 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
