LITTLE ROCK Woodpeckers don’t get headaches when they make that jackhammer noise on the side of a house, but their pecking can cause a homeowner plenty of migraines, as reported in Saturday’s HomeStyle section.
A determined woodpecker has been known to make even a tolerant bird lover run for the Excedrin. And unsightly woodpecker holes in the siding or eaves of houses is the No. 1 bird-caused problem for homeowners.
Mending such damage can be surprisingly costly if the repairs have to be made over and over. In many instances woodpeckers do their damage high up in the gables, and repairs require using a tall ladder or scaffolding, making the work difficult or even dangerous for do-it-yourself handymen. And since the cost of fixing woodpecker damage is usually less than the deductible on home insurance policies, the expense is irksome.
