4 killed in crash of single-engine plane in NW Arkansas

A small airplane crashed south of Fayetteville Saturday, leaving four people dead, the Washington County sheriff’s office said.

The airplane went down late Saturday morning in the Brentwood Mountain area south of West Fork, about 10 miles south of Fayetteville in northwest Arkansas, the office said in a news release.

Sgt. Josh McConnell of the sheriff’s office identified those killed, as 46-year-old pilot Edward Cooper; 16-year-old Mary Cooper; 14-year-old Elizabeth Cooper; and 56-year-old Martin Draper. They all came from Hot Springs.

The release said the sheriff’s office was notified of the crash at 11:48 a.m. When deputies and emergency medical personnel found the plane’s wreckage in a field off Oak Grove Road.

McConnell said the airplane was a single-engine Beechcraft A-36.

He said authorities did not know if the plane was heading for a landing in northwest Arkansas or flying elsewhere. McConnell said authorities did not know about the circumstances of the crash.
