City attorney begins 90-day suspension

By The Associated Press

Van Buren’s elected city attorney has started serving a 90-day law license suspension.

The Arkansas Supreme Court suspended the license of N. Donald Jenkins Jr. last March 31 but stayed its action pending an appeal. The court rejected that appeal on Jan. 21.

The suspension came after a complaint arose about Jenkins’ handling of a federal lawsuit he filed for a private client in 2007. Jenkins failed to respond to the complaint.

Jenkins has been Van Buren’s city attorney since January 2007 and also has a private practice. Jenkins’ attorney says Jenkins chose to begin serving the suspension Friday instead of asking for a rehearing before the state Supreme Court.

Jenkins’ suspension will end May 6.
