A legislative panel supports having lawmakers consider the amounts of lottery-funded college scholarships during Arkansas’ first-ever fiscal session.
The lottery’s oversight committee has recommended $5,000 scholarships for four-year schools and $2,500 scholarships for two-schools to be funded by the lottery.
The House Rules Committee on Tuesday supported allowing the Legislature to consider lottery scholarship legislation. The resolution now heads to the House floor for a vote.
The fiscal session is intended to focus primarily on budget issues, and both the House and Senate must support considering non-fiscal matters by a two-thirds vote.
Arkansas began selling lottery tickets in late September.
