The Southwest Power Pool is to announce plans to build a $63 million office in Little Rock that will employ 150 people.

A news conference is scheduled for Friday morning at the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, but the power pool confirmed Thursday that it will expand its presence with the new office.

The Southwest Power Pool oversees the electric grid for an eight-state region, including Arkansas.

An Arkansas Department of Economic Development spokesman called the development a “major announcement” and said it would provide good, high-paying jobs.

The Friday news conference is set for 9 a.m. Arkansas Business first reported details of the Southwest Power Pool announcement.
