— The Arkansas Community Foundation announced the availability of scholarship awards for Arkansas students whose parents have died in service to their nation, state or community. The awards are funded by income from the Arkansas Service Memorial Fund, an endowment fund created in the mid-’80s largely through the fundraising efforts of Sheffield Nelson. Since 1984, income from the fund has provided 126 scholarships totaling more than $150,000.

Visit arcf.org to download the application form or contact Margaret Birdsong at (501) 372-1116 or by e-mail at mbirdsong@arcf.org to receive a copy. Applications received by Saturday, May 1, will be given priority.

The Arkansas Community Foundation makes grants to improve the quality of life in our state and collaborates with individuals, families and organizations to build local communities through philanthropy. ARCF has more than $125 million in assets and has provided more than $75 million in grants since it began operation in 1976. Contributions to ARCF, its funds and any of its 27 local affiliate offices are fully tax deductible.
