JAYESS, Miss. — A Mississippi man has been charged with murder in a New Years’ Eve shooting that left one man dead.
Pike County Sheriff Mark Shepherd says 30-year-old Bobby Brumfield of Jayess was being held without bond Monday in the county jail pending an initial court appearance.
Shepherd tells the McComb Enterprise-Journal that the body of 39-year-old Kevin J. Lirette of Fountain Hill, Ark., was found in the median of U.S. Highway 98 east of Jayess.
Lirette was pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Percy Pittman. An autopsy has been ordered.
Shepherd says investigators believe the shooting occurred during an argument between the two men.
