ST. LOUIS Police are searching a St. Louis manufacturing plant room by room after a man opened fire, killing three people and wounding five others.
The shooting occurred about 6:30 a.m. Thursday at the plant operated by Swiss-based ABB Group. Four hours later, police believed the gunman was still in the building.
Fire Department spokesman Bob Keuss identified the suspected shooter as Timothy Herndon of Webster Groves, Mo. Police Capt. Sam Dotson said Herndon is an employee of the plant.
Dotson said the shooting occurred during a shift change, and 40 to 50 people were likely in the plant. Dotson said police rescued frightened workers from the rooftop, closets and boiler rooms.
Keuss said two victims are in critical condition and one is in serious condition. The other had injuries he described as minor.
