Highway Dept. opens one lane of Pig Trail in Ark.

Arkansas highway officials say Arkansas 23, the Pig Trail, is stable enough to be reopened after a two-week closure.

Crews will continue to work on the roadway, but highway crews have sufficiently fixed the roadway after recent floods damaged it.

The road was closed Dec. 29 when crews repairing a section of the highway uncovered additional instability. After the reopening, which was set for Monday, motorists will use an unpaved part of the roadway, with north- and south-bound motorists alternating.

The work site is about five miles north of Cass, or about 20 miles north of Arkansas 23’s intersection with Interstate 40 near Ozark.

Additional work must be done at a site about a mile north of the current construction zone.
