Man accused of attacking woman, taking car with infant inside

A Little Rock man was arrested after being accused of striking a woman outside a Family Dollar Store and then taking off in her car — which still had her infant son inside of it — before crashing it.

Barry Raiford, 43, of 4800 Confederate has been charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping, theft of property and battery in Saturday's incident.

The mother, Whitney Moore, told police that a black man around 25 years old with a goatee approached her outside the store at 1100 E. Roosevelt while she was loading groceries in her car. According to a news release, Moore said the man struck her multiple times in the face and she fell to the ground, where he kept striking her.

Moore told police that the man appeared to be armed with an ice pick.

Then, according to the release, the man took off in Moore's Toyota Camry that had Moore's 7-month-old son inside. The man sped away through the parking lot before crashing the car into a drainage ditch not far from the business.

Police searching the area then found a man matching the description given by Moore walking near Roosevelt and Confederate roads.

Moore, who suffered busted lips and facial swelling, was transported to UAMS along with her son, who appeared to be unharmed.
