Former Fort Smith officer gets 10-year sentence

— A former Fort Smith police officer has received a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to six felony charges.

Ly Thien Duong pleaded guilty to delivery of marijuana, two counts of conspiracy to deliver the drug Ecstasy, conspiracy to deliver oxycodone, theft by deception and overdraft.

The 25-year-old former officer was arrested on the drug charges on April 23.

The sentence handed down Wednesday in Sebastian County Circuit Court was for 10 years in prison plus 10 years suspended on each conspiracy charge and the overdraft charge and 10 years on the marijuana and theft charges. The sentences will run concurrently.

Duong worked at the Fort Smith Police Department from May 2006 until March 2007, when he was fired for falsifying a report about a traffic accident in which he was involved.
