5 airports to receive $750,000 for repairs

Five municipal airports in Arkansas will split around $750,000 for repairs and construction, members of Arkansas' congressional delegation announced today.

Rep. Mike Ross and Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor said the Transportation Department's funding of the projects in the Fourth Congressional District is a boon for infrastructure and local economies.

Those airports receiving funds:

Crossett - Z M Jack Stell Field

Z M Jack Stell Field will receive $141,840 for drainage improvements and the installation of perimeter fencing. The drainage improvements will control storm water runoff and prevent flooding at the airport during heavy storms. The installation of perimeter fencing will enhance safety and prevent wildlife access to the airport.

Dumas - Billy Free Municipal Airport

Billy Free Municipal Airport will receive $207,152 to construct a parallel taxiway. This taxiway construction is necessary to ensure that taxiing and landing aircraft have adequate separation.

Fordyce - Fordyce Municipal Airport

Fordyce Municipal Airport will receive $148,337 for the rehabilitation of the aircraft parking area at the airport. The parking area rehabilitation is necessary to preserve the current aircraft parking capacity and to extend the functional life of the area.

Monticello - Monticello Municipal Airport

Monticello Municipal Airport, Ellis Field will receive $87,647 to provide for the acquisition of three parcels of land at the airport. The acquisition of this land is required to ensure the airport has control of the primary surface of the airport’s runway.

Sheridan - Sheridan Municipal Airport

Sheridan Municipal Airport will receive $167,485 for repairs to the taxiway pavement and for the installation of perimeter fencing. The taxiway rehabilitation is necessary to prevent any further deterioration of the taxiway and to extend the functional life of the pavement. The installation of perimeter fencing will enhance safety and prevent wildlife access to the airport.
