The man arrested in the shooting death of a Jonesboro man outside the Conway Police Department last week was formally charged with murder and aggravated assault Monday.

At the same time, Conway police released the surveillance video footage that shows how events transpired Thursday .

Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden filed the felony charges against Cortez Waller, 21, of Conway. Waller is accused of shooting Christopher Childress, 32, multiple times with a .45-caliber handgun, authorities said.

According to Officer Chris Harris, Waller walked into the department and surrendered immediately after the 1:15 p.m. shooting.

Police say Waller and Childress’ fiance had recently had a relationship. Waller and Childress crossed paths on Thursday and ended up confronting each other outside the police department.

According to police spokesman Harris, Waller had been headed to the police station to report an unrelated theft.

The prosecutor said Waller could face 10-40 years in prison on the murder charge, and up to six years for assault.
