A police officer was shot near the Diamondhead community, a resort area about 15 miles from Hot Springs, according to reports.
Officer Fred Ensminger, 46, was shot in the shoulder but was able to drive and get help. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Hot Springs.
The shooting happened on Coolwood Drive near Lake Catherine. The Diamondhead community is a gated area that prides itself on its seclusion.
There was no word on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Jerry Chamliss, who is believed to be a resident in the community. was arrested and transported to the Garland County sheriff's office.
