ADEQ oversees cleanup at Rogers hazmat site

— The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has ordered a cleanup at a hazardous materials site in Rogers.

The agency said Thursday that a routine inspection at the former Haz-Mert facility revealed that containers were leaking and the spills were moving toward one another, creating a danger of a chemical reaction or a fire.

The ADEQ says the facility is in bankruptcy, so the agency authorized the bankruptcy trustee to employ a cleanup firm.

State regulators and the Rogers Fire Department are overseeing the cleanup. Work began yesterday and was continuing Thursday.
