Suspect shot during chase in Pine Bluff

— A man was shot by police during a foot pursuit Wednesday night in Pine Bluff, authorities said.

The man, whose name is not being released, was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries, Pine Bluff Police Department Lt. Bob Rawlinson said. It was not known whether his wounds are life-threatening.

"The subject is not dead, he's at the hospital," Rawlinson said Thursday morning, emphasizing the ongoing investigation precludes authorities from releasing much information. "I can't go any further."

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. in the 800 block of West 28th Street. Rawlinson said only that "shots were fired" during a foot chase with the person who was hospitalized. He said he could not say whether police fired all the shots or whether the man who was being chased had or used a weapon.

Rawlinson said two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard policy in officer-involved shootings.
