Fire quickly doused at White Hall school

— A small fire at a construction area at White Hall High School on Friday afternoon damaged some steel structure and roofing material but did little damage to classrooms and equipment, the chief of the White Hall Volunteer Fire Department said.

Fire Chief Sandy Castleberry said the blaze started about 1:15 p.m. and was contained within 10 to 15 minutes.

He said firefighters covered computer equipment with tarps to prevent water damage. There was some water damage to the carpet, he added.

The fire, which is under investigation, started after some construction materials ignited on the second floor of an addition under construction at the high school, Castleberry said.

He described the fire as minor, noting that it won’t affect the start of classes this year.
