GLENCOE — Valerie and Joe Whisenand celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Norway. The couple were married July 16, 1960. Mrs. Whisenand is the former Valerie Hansen and a writer of Christian novels as Valerie Hansen. Whisenand retired as fire chief from Murrieta, Calif. They are the parents of Gary Whisenand of Murrieta and Karen Jones of Henderson, Nev. The couple have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
ALTOONA, Wis. - Betty Jane and Ardean Gumbert, formerly of North Little Rock, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family picnic in May. The couple were married May 17, 1945. Mrs. Gumbert, the former Betty Jane Bryant, is a retired newspaper editor. Gumbert retired as a dye check and consultant for dairy plants. They are the parents of Betty Platzek and Peggy Buchholz, both of Altoona; Barbara Hundt of LaCrosse, Wis.; Gary Gumbert of Odessa, Texas; and Bryant Gumbert of Annapolis, Md. The couple have 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Joyce and Robert L. Shaw of Little Rock celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday at Cajun’s Wharf. The couple were married July 30, 1960. Mrs. Shaw is the former Joyce Lorraine McElroy and a retired data processing-bookkeeper. Shaw retired from The Associated Press. They are the parents of Robert L. Shaw Jr. of North Little Rock and Erin Moore of Flower Mound, Texas. The couple have six grandchildren.
LO N O - Patsy and James Melton will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. today at St. Paul United Methodist Church fellowship hall. The couple were married July 22, 1950. Mrs. Melton, the former Patsy Heard, is a retired professor of mathematics at Henderson State University, Arkadelphia. Melton is a retired plant manager at Reynolds Metals Co. They are the parents of Carolyn Eoff of Arkadelphia, Jim Melton and Tammy Harrell, both of Lono, and Russell Melton of Little Rock. The couple have 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
BENTON - Anna and Ray Bearden celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. The couple were married June 25, 1960. Mrs. Bearden is the former Anna Gipson. Bearden is retired from Ryder Truck Rental. They are the parents of Dianna Fulmer of Bryant and Leslie Goshien of Benton. The couple have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
HOT SPRINGS - Linda and Fred Bibbs celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with a reception at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The couple were married July 16, 1960. Mrs. Bibbs, the former Linda Clinton, is a secretary at Fountain Lake Schools. Bibbs is retired from Equifax. They are the parents of Dana Stone and Cindy Crook, both of Hot Springs. The couple have four grandchildren.
