Church Women United honors notable members

— Members of the Faulkner County Unit of Church Women United celebrated May Friendship Day at First United Methodist Church.

The unit presented April Toll with the 2010 Young Church Woman Award.

Toll directs the church’s Vacation Bible School at University Church of Christ and is active in other church activities. She and her husband, Phillip, have three children.

Carole Teague was presented the Church Women United 2010 Valiant Woman Award.

At First United Methodist Church, Teague is a layperson who has begun many innovative programs, such as the Conway Interfaith Clinic serving low-income, uninsured citizens and her church’s Merry Mission Fair in support of mission efforts and local agencies.

On behalf of the Faulkner County Unit of Church Women United, she envisioned a Lenten luncheon series in 2006 and has led it the past five years.

She spearheaded several visits to Santiago, Chile, to assist in a workshop for the mentally challenged and began a “Chili for Chile” event to raise funds in support of the Methodist missionaries in Santiago.

She serves on the programstaff of First United Methodist Church as coordinator of pastoral care. She has served as president of United Methodist Women and serves on the conference committee that interviews candidates for ministry.

She has served on the Leaders Council of Church Women United for several terms and is an active member of such community organizations as the Conway Civic League and the PEO.

Her husband, Sam, is a full-time United Methodist pastor who has served the church at the conference, district and local levels. She and Sam have a blended family, which includes seven children and numerous grandchildren.
