HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL High ho, high ho, it’s off to see our classes we go

— The doors to eStem High Public Charter School opened July 14 for a sneak peek at the school’s new digs.

The reception and open house, hosted by the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, was held about a week before the start of school. The building at 123 W. Third St. formerly housed the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ Little Rock branch. The lobby still boasts a Federal Reserve plaque. The old guard stand still overlooks the lobby, but the slot for the machine gun is covered over.

The new high school is across the street from the former Arkansas Gazette building, which houses eStem’s kindergarten through eighth grades. The high school will house 375 students in grades 9-11. The 12th grade will be added in the 2011-12 school year, said Katrina Jones, the school’s principal.

Guests at the open house included John Greer of Witsell Evans Rasco Architects/ Planners; eStem Chief Executive Officer John Bacon; Sharon Priest, executive director of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership; and developers Rett Tucker and Jimmy Moses.
