Newport student wins scholarship

— JaTay Redd of Newport was awarded the Arkansas State University-Newport Leadership Scholarship for the 2010 fall semester. Redd is the daughter of Pamela Redd of Richmond, Va., and Eric Ocampo of Fontana, Calif. She is a 2009 graduate of Penn Foster High School in Scranton,Pa. She is studying accounting and is in her second year at ASU-Newport.

Redd is active in the ASU-Newport StudentGovernment Association and served as the treasurer for the SGA last year. She also served as the president of the ASU-Newport chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor society for twoyear colleges. She has volunteered her time for the 2009 Fall Blast, the Fall Festival and the 2010 Spring Fling. She was a member of the campus Relay for Life team, performed in the ASU-Newport’s Got Talent show, and helped plan, construct and was on the 2009 Christmas float.

To be eligible for a Leadership Scholarship, a student must be enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours per semester), must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75, and must have participated in activities on campus.
