LILLIAN PHYLLIS “LEE” JUSTUS CLOUD, born Aug. 8, 1919, diedon July 23, 2010. She was born in St. Paul, Minn., to Elmer Henry Justus and Florence Noring Justus and met her husband during WWII in Wisconsin. They wrote to one anotherthroughout the war and married on June 11, 1949. Lee had a great spirit of adventure and worked as a lab technician for the Anchorage Hospital and the Alaskan Railroad during WWII. While her husband attended dental school at Washington University, she worked for the American Red Cross. After her husband finished dental school, the couple relocated to Little Rock, Ark. Lee helped her husband establish his dental practice and cared for their growing family. She was active in her church, St. James United Methodist Church, having served on several committees. She was a member of the Agape Sunday School class for over 20 years.While their children were young, she was a Den Mother in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a volunteer for several agencies including Meals on Wheels. She served as president of the Arkansas Dental Auxiliary. During the crisis at Central High School, she was an active member of the Women’s Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools. She had many faithful friends in her bridge clubs of 25 years. During her last years, as she became more housebound, she knit shawls for people in hospitals and nursing homes. She is remembered by her family for her love of God and her family, her hand-knit sweaters and great Grammie rolls and German Christmas bread. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. William L. Cloud of Little Rock, Ark.; three children, Judge Teresa Hughes, son-in-law, Judge Tom Hughes of Beebe, Ark., sons, Dr. W. Lindsay Cloud III and Dr. John Justus Cloud, her daughters-in-law, Robin Cloud and Valerie Cloud of Little Rock, Ark.; three granddaughters, Dr. Gwyneth Hughes, Lauren Cloud and Katherine Cloud; sister, Florence Mitchell of St. Paul, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carolyn Schletz. Visitation will be Monday, July 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Little RockFuneral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Road). BURL TRAVIS MOORE, 83, of Little Rock passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010. He was born on Sept. 4, 1926, in Belfast, Ark., the son of the late Burleigh D. and Elsie Moore. He retired from the Little Rock Post Office after 38 years of service and made his home in Little Rock. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. Mr. Moore was a life member of the VFW Post 9095 and served for many years as a member of the post honor guard. Burl was married for over 42 years to the love of his life, Vivian Graves Moore, before she passed away in 2008. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Reginald Moore of Little Rock and Robert and Andrea Moore of Conway; two daughters, Stephanie Swan of Avondale, Newfoundland and Cynthia Davis of Dallas, Texas; four granddaughters, Ashley of Little Rock, Emyle and Kelsey of Conway and Rebecca of Dallas; one sister, Carolyn Sue Cathey of Monticello, Ark., and two brothers, Herman Moore of Dunwoody, Ga., and Dr. James Moore of Hot Springs, Ark. WANDA “MEMAW” RHOADS, 90, of Little Rock, went to bewith her Lord on Saturday, July 24, 2010. She was born on Nov. 6, 1919 in Reyno, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. JIMMY CARL WATTS, 67, of North Little Rock passed awayFriday, July 23, 2010. He was president of Arkansas Floral Association in 2006. He was a lifetime Arkansas Master Florist. BATESVILLE - Grace Caraway Finley died Friday, July 23, 2010at her home in Batesville. Born in Mount Pleasant, Ark., she was the daughter of Thomas Caraway and Zora Marlin Caraway. Grace was a very strong-willed person whotraveled a lot as a military wife, and had lived in many different places while her husband was in the military. She loved to go camping, she loved to garden, but most of all, she loved watching her hummingbirds. She was well known for her famous yeast rolls; she would often drop by area businesses and give them a batch of the rolls for everyone there to enjoy. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Sheila Finley of Newark; a brother, Paul Caraway of North Little Rock; a sister, Marie Dover of Batesville; three grandchildren: Autumn Hunter of Batesville, April Lewis of Batesville, and Kyle Hunter of Newark; a step-grandson, Josh Gardner of Newark; two great grandchildren: Alley Lewis and Fallon Lewis both of Batesville; several nieces and nephews; and many very close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Drexel Finley; a son, Rick Finley; three brothers, Frank Caraway, Flino Caraway, and Amos Sipe; and a sister, Jean Sears. MORRILTON - Carroll Phillip “Brownie” Williams, age 78,of Morrilton passed away July 24, 2010, at his home in Morrilton after a brief illness. He was a loving and gentle father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a true friendto many. Brownie was a Christian and lifelong Baptist. He was born Sept. 11, 1931, at Scotland, Ark., son of the late Thomas and Rose Williams. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 42 years, Mary Ashcraft Williams. Brownie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bruce Hawkins of Morrilton; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Doris Williams of Knoxville, Ark.; his grandchildren, Clayton Hawkins of Morrilton, Amanda Williams of Clarksville, Kevin Williams of Russellville, and Nicholas Williams of Knoxville. One greatgrandchild, Nathaniel Sparks of Clarksville. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Lowell Williams and Sally Durham. Brownie was a 1951 graduate of Wonderview High School where he played basketball for the Dare Devils. He was very proud to have served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He remained a proud veteran and never failed to salute the flag when appropriate. After returning from the war, he went to work with his father in the sawmill business until he joined Arkansas Kraft Corporation in 1967 where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Upon retirement he continued his favorite pastime of fishing and was a proud member of Fish Lake Club. Brownie was an avid Razorback fan rarely missing a football or basketball game.He loved watching his grandchildren grow up around his pool. Funeral services will be Monday, July 26, 2010, at 2 p.m., First Baptist Church in Morrilton, officiating Dr. Bill Brown and Brother Paul Sheets. WYNNE - Martha Derise Beaton, 85, of Wynne died Friday, July23, 2010, at her home in Wynne. Mrs. Beaton was preceded in death by her parents, Laodice and Leonore Derise, and brother, Louis Paul Derise. Mrs. Beaton was born in Jeanerette, La., on January 7, 1925. She moved to Wynne and married Kenneth Beaton in 1950. She was an avid golfer, gardener and bridge player. After graduating from Franklin High School in Louisiana, Mrs. Beaton continued her education and received her RN degree from Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She became a skilled surgical nurse and was employed at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, where she met her future husband.

Martha was a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Crowley’s Ridge Ladies Golf Association where she served as treasurer for 20 years. She was a former member of the Town and Country Garden Club. She enjoyed bimonthly bridge club for 40 years with many dear friends. She volunteered at Red Cross Blood Drives for many years.

Survivors included husband, Dr. Kenneth Beaton of Wynne; children, Dr. Neal Beaton (Dr. Janet Udouj), Dr. Susan Manley (Michael) of Little Rock, Becky Rhodes (Richard) of El Dorado, Cindy Hathcock (Steve) and Dr. Trent Beaton (Tammy) of Wynne; 12 grandchildren, Justin Rhodes (Adrienne), Kristin Rhodes, Adam Rhodes, Laura Beaton (Nate Mitchell), Katie Beaton, John Beaton, Robert Beaton, George Beaton, Jessie Clare Wilson (John Paul), Ken Hathcock, Drew Manley and Blair Manley; great grandchildren, Elliott Rhodes, Emerson Rhodes and John Steven Wilson. Also, she leaves her two sisters, Eloise Derise Wittenberg of Lafayette, La., and Rita Derise Dearing (Howard) of Covington, Louisiana.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 26, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with burial in Cogbill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 6 to 7 p.m. at Kernodle Funeral Home with Rosary beginning after visitation.

MONROE, La. - Funeral services for James Edward Bryant, 78, of Monroe, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Dr. Larry Stafford officiating. Graveside services were at 5 p.m. Sunday at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan, Ark. Mr. Bryant passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at St. Francis North Hospital.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and graduated from the University of Arkansas in Mechanical Engineering.

Mr. Bryant worked for International Paper, Ford Bacon and Davis, and consulted for Potlatch in Arkansas.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and golfer.

Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Eddie Bryant; and sisters, Jeanette Long and Mildred DeJarnette Womble.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Bryant; sons, Tracy Bryant and wife Karen, Brent Bryant and wife Tracie, and Kyle Bryant; grandchildren, Kristyn, Michael, Matthew, Nicholas, and Jake; sisters, Polly Camper and Maxine Montieth of Pine Bluff, Ark.; mother-in-law, Fain Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

TEXARKANA, Texas - Bruce Wilson, 81, of Texarkana died Thursday. Born in Calmer, Ark., he was retired tire store owner.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; son Sans of Texarkana; grandsons Matt Wilson of Little Rock, Drew Wilson of Fayetteville; and brother, James Wilson of Rogers.
