Garland County escapee caught

— A burglary suspect who twice escaped from police custody has been recaptured again, Garland County authorities said.

Jermaine Atkinson, 21, was arrested Tuesday night in Hot Springs. Details on the arrest were not immediately known.

Atkinson first escaped in early June when he managed to either unlock or slip out of his handcuffs and run off. He was being walked to Circuit Court for a hearing on burglary and theft charges and was chained to another Garland County inmates at the time.

Authorities rearrested Atkinson July 14 when investigators identified him and two others as suspects in a burglary on Gwendolyn Way in Garland County.

But as a deputy removed Atkinson from his patrol car at the sheriff's office, Atkinson struck him in the chest, pushed him back and then ran off.
