— LR man accused in robberies of 2

A Little Rock man was arrested Tuesday morning after police say he robbed two men at gunpoint and forced one of the men to remove money from “several” automatic teller machines around the city on July 10.

Sylvester Hatley, 39, of 7624 W. 38th St. and an accomplice approached a man who was loading his truck at the Budget Inn at 5620 S. University Ave., produced a gun and forced the man back to his room, police Lt. Dana Jackson said. There Hatley and his accomplice robbed the man and another man in the room, Jackson said.

The suspects ordered one of the men to lie on the bed and wrapped him in duct tape, then drove the other man around the city in his own pickup and forced him to remove money from “several” ATMs. At the last machine, the suspects forced the man out of the truck and drove away.

Early Tuesday, officers responding to a call about a disturbance with a weapon at 3401 Mabelvale Pike met a man who identified himself as Anthony Johnson. He was arrested on outstanding warrants, but when his fingerprints were run through the Arkansas Crime Information Center database, officers discovered he was actually Hatley, Jackson said.

Hatley was taken to the detectives’ office downtown where he was questioned and charged with kidnapping, aggravated residential burglary and theft of property. He was being held Tuesday night at the Pulaski County jail. Bail had not been set.

Police have not identified the other suspect in the robbery.
