Supervisor at state prison dies in car accident at home

— A supervisor at a state prison in Jefferson County was killed Sunday afternoon at his home on the prison grounds when his girlfriend accidentally struck him with her car, a prison spokesman said.

Capt. Jackie Davis, 51, was inside the carport of his home near the Arkansas Department of Correction’s training academy about 3:30 p.m. when the girlfriend accidentally backedinto him with her car, Correction Department spokesman Dina Tyler said. Davis was pinned between the car and a brick wall, Tyler said.

Tyler said she didn’t know the name of the girlfriend, who lived with Davis. The crash is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police but is believed to have been an accident, Tyler said.

State Police spokesman Bill Sadler declined to comment, saying the crash is under investigation by the state police’s criminal investigation division.

Davis, who worked for the department for more than 20 years, was a supervisor at the Tucker Maximum Security Unit, Tyler said. He founded the Unity program, which “works with inmates who are gang members to try to show them a different way,” Tyler said.

“It’s a big loss,” Tyler said. “It’s horrible.”
