His department hopes to notify all lottery scholarship applicants by August 10 about whether they received money for college, the higher education chief said Friday.
To handle the mountain of applications, the Arkansas Department of Higher Education redirected existing staff, hired temporary workers and relied on other state agencies, Jim Purcell told ADHE Coordinating Board members.
The department has notified all traditional student of their scholarship status.
A total of "10,135 have accepted, 1,654 are pending acceptance, 97 declined and 5,114 applicants have been notified that they are either ineligible or eligibility is still pending due to missing application documents," Purcell said.
More than 55,000 people applied for the scholarships.
This is the first year for the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
