State Supreme Court says rural school can close

— The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled against parents who sued the state Board of Education over the closure of their Fourche Valley school in rural Yell County in west Arkansas.

Attorneys for the parents raised the issue of how long is too long when it comes to school-bus rides in an era of state-approved school district consolidations and mergers.

The court upheld a decision by Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Collins Kilgore, who rejected parents’ request last year to reopen the school, which is part of the Two Rivers School District.

Small community Arkansas should start home schooling rather than busing their children... What a shame, here in the greatest country on earth..
this state has so much and uses it so poorly !!

Unfortunately, this is not a wealthy community and many of the families affected by the school closing have both parents working. Homeschooling usually requires one parent to stay home unless they are willing to make a huge effort to change their work schedules. If this were a wealthy community, the school would not have closed.

I homeschool and I feel that this is the correct thing to do for my family. It is not the correct thing to do for every family.
