Rep. Marion Berry's former chief of staff won the Democratic runoff after keeping a slim lead over his opponent in the 1st Congressional District race Tuesday night.

Chad Causey, a Jonesboro native, came in behind Tim Wooldridge in the May primary, but jumped ahead in the runoff.

As of 11 p.m., Causey led Wooldridge 50.04 percent to 49.96 percent with 57 of the 75 counties reporting.

Wooldridge had declined to concede about 9 p.m., adding that he had expected “a tight, long evening.”

Causey will face Republican Rick Crawford in the November general election.
