3 vehicle accidents take 3 lives in state

— Three people died Friday and Saturday in three motorvehicle accidents on Arkansas roads, according to preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality reports.

At 10:53 p.m. on Friday, James Tackett, 56, of Leslie was traveling west on Rushing Road in Dover when he lost control of a 2005 Chevrolet pickup, the report said. The pickup then struck a guardrail, overturned, crossed the road and landed in a ditch, the report said.

Tackett died at the scene.

About an hour later, John Tomlin, 40, of Rosston was driving a 1979 GMC pickup south on Arkansas 53 about 12 miles from Prescott when the pickup crossed the centerline, the report said.

The pickup then collided with a northbound 1998 Peterbilt driven by GordonMorrow, 21, of Nashville, the report said.

Tomlin died from injuries suffered in the collision, the report said. A passenger in the pickup, Jaymes Tomlin, 14, of Prescott was taken to Ouachita County Hospital with unknown injuries. Morrow wasn’t injured.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, Ralph H. Byrd, 66, of Searcy was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup north on U.S. 67 at the 44-mile marker in White County when he veered to avoid hitting another vehicle, the report said. The pickup left the roadway, ran through a fence and struck a piece of farm equipment, the report said.

Byrd died from injuries suffered in the crash. His passenger, John W. Harvey, 61, also of Searcy, was taken to White County Medical Center with unknown injuries, the report said.
