— OBU dedicates, opens new plaza.

Ouachita Baptist University has officially opened Heflin Plaza on campus, dedicating it June 10.

The $2 million plaza, which features a 300-footlong pedestrian bridge, is named in honor of Johnny Heflin, former chairman of OBU’s board of trustees, his wife, Sharon, and their family, Jay and Andrea Heflin and Marc and Billie Heflin. All six family members are Ouachita alumni.

The project links OBU’s north campus and main campus.

Program free

for 4-year-olds

College Station Elementary School in the Pulaski County Special School District is taking applications for its free pre-kindergarten program for the 2010-11 school year.

The full-day program, which provides meals, snacks and materials, is designed to prepare 4-year-olds for kindergarten. It’s funded bythe state’s Arkansas Better Chance program, and it’s for children from families who meet certain income requirements.

College Station Principal Lisa Watson said those who do not take part in the fullday program may be interested in the school’s extendedcare program.

Applications for both programs may be picked up at the College Station Elementary School office, 4710 Frazier Pike, in southeast Pulaski County, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Watson said there are limited seats available.
