• -----RICHARD LOUIS “DICK” COPELAND, born June 11, 1927 in Weatherford, Texas, passed away in his home in North Little Rock on June 18, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old. He was a caring husband, a loving father, step-father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, uncle, great-uncle and true friend to many people. He lived a long, full life, faced adversity with his health, and never complained. A US Naval veteran, he enlisted in 1944 and served in the South Pacific. He was a “Seabee” and witnessed the Bikini Atoll atomic bomb test. His tour of duty ended in 1946. An electrical engineer by trade, and an entrepreneur in spirit, he and three friends founded Arkansas Modification center in 1973. They customized business aircraft, and many celebrities, including Elvis Presley and Carey Grant were among his clients. British Aerospace purchased the business in 1983, then Raytheon took over in the 1990s, and now the company is known as Hawker Beechcraft, Inc. Dick was the last surviving partner of that visionary foursome. He survived Edwin Hendon, Robert Corriveau and Lucien Talliac. An avid outdoorsman, he traveled to Africa on safari several times and was very proud of his trophies and the time he spent with friends and family on those trips. For over ten years in the 1980s and 1990s, he owned a vast hunting ranch in South Texas and was fortunate enough to take many trips down with friends and relatives to hunt deer, havalina, quail, and dove. He traveled the world, taught himself to fly, held a special place in his heart for Studebaker and Mercedes automobiles, and was generous to a fault. Many of his family have benefited directly from his lavish gifts, that have included cars, trips, even homes. He was preceded in death by his parents “Belton” and Dannie Copeland; his first wife Edith, his sisters Flora Shaw and Linda Chalsma; and his grandson Brian McMurtray. He is survived, and missed, by his wife of 30 years, Jerry, of North Little Rock; his son Richard Don Copeland and wife, Jan, of Mayflower; his daughter, Patricia Yarberry of Cabot; two stepsons, Curt and Robert Devan; his step-daughter Jo Anne Nesto; his sister Mary Carr of Weatherford, Texas; brothers-in-law, Jim Chalsma, Roy Shaw, Jack Ussery; nine grandaughters; four great-grandsons; and one greatgrandaughter. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives all over the country also celebrate his life. Though he was quite ill for the last 20 years of his life, he packed more life into his first 60 years than most of us ever get to experience. We will miss his stories, his smile, his presence in our lives. We are better people because we knew him and we are honored that we could grant his last request, to pass away at home. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170. Online guestbook www. northlittlerockfuneralhome.com.

• -----BROOKLAND — Mrs. Angela Jane (Rowlett) Davis, 44, of Brookland, Ark., died Thursday, June 17, 2010, Angie was born Aug. 22, 1965 to Warren and Virginia Rowlett, and was the youngest of the family of seven children. She attended Swifton schools, where she played basketball, participated in numerous social activities and excelled academically, graduating at the top of her class. She then attended Arkansas State University, and obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UAMS in 1988. When she began practicing pharmacy in Jonesboro, she met another young pharmacist, Greg Davis, who would become her husband. Angie and Greg built a beautiful home and she had a successful career, but her great joy and passion was helping Greg raise their two sons, Brent and Luke, with love, laughter and pride. Angie always made sure their lives were filled with joyous family activities, including camping out and vacations to Branson and the beach. She always joined her boys on carnival rides, in the pool and riding go-karts, for her greatest pleasure was to see them enjoying themselves and being happy. She loved watching Brent play basketball and golf, and playing Nintendo and watching videos with Luke. She was so very proud of them. Angie lived her life with a loving nature, great generosity and a mischievous sense of humor. If she could lend a helping hand, ease another’s burden or give needed encouragement and support, she did. When faced with tough times, she met them head-on, with hope and determination. While her family was always her primary concern, Angie had many varied interests. She was a wonderful cook, and everyone looked forward to her delicious dishes and treats. She decorated her home beautifully, especially for the holidays. As a pharmacist, she was a hard-working and loyal employee and co-worker. Angie also had a strong faith and belief in God, which brought her comfort and hope even in difficult times. She was preceded in death by one sister, Joan Thompson. After growing up in Earle, she attended Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, and Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she received a BA (1941) and MS-Ed (1951).

A gifted teacher, she got her first teaching job in 1941 at the elementary school in Turrell, AR. She married her sweetheart and fellow schoolteacher Gilford Dudley Taylor Jr., on Dec. 7, 1942, on the day of his graduation from flight school in Pensacola, FL.

While Fran was expecting their first child in 1943, her husband — then a U.S. Marine WWII divebomber pilot — was lost at sea, and his body was never recovered. Their only son, G. Dudley Taylor III, was born on Sept. 22, 1943, and Fran began her new life as devoted mother and beloved schoolteacher.

In 1950, she moved to Little Rock with her son to take a teaching job, and she joined her neighborhood church, Pulaski Heights Baptist, the same week. She enjoyed teaching for more than 50 years, mostly in the Little Rock School District, and was involved in many church, civic and social organizations, including Gold Star Wives. Even after her retirement, Fran returned as a reading specialist and was inducted into the Retired Teachers Hall of Fame in 1999.

In 2004, she moved to be near her family in Dallas, where she became an active member of the Joy Sunday School Class at Park Cities Baptist Church. For fun, Fran loved to share jokes, play bridge, shop, and travel with her friends to Mount Nebo, Ark., and with her family to Amelia Island, Fla. With her beautiful white hair and easy-going demeanor, she was the epitome of genteel Southern hospitality.

Fran is predeceased by her parents John Bonds Dulaney and Mayfred Upchurch Dulaney; husband U.S. Marine Capt. Gilford Dudley Taylor Jr.; brother Tom Dulaney; and sister Carolyn Minieris. She is survived by many family members including son G. Dudley Taylor III and wife Charlotte; granddaughter Amy Catherine Davis and husband Bill; grandson Gilford D. Taylor IV and wife, Katy; great-grandchildren Louis Giles Horn V (Gil), Gilford Dudley Taylor V (Nick), Bo Davis, Will Davis, and Hannah Davis, all of Dallas, Texas; brother John Dulaney Jr.; and sister Betsy Dulaney Held; and numerous nieces and nephews including Arkansas natives Kitty Held Mason, Tom Teeter, Jim Teeter, Joe Teeter, Ruskin Teeter, Mary Elizabeth “Doy” Taylor Branch and R. Dudley Taylor.
