Families dig archaeology training at Toltec Mounds

The lure of prehistoric discoveries attracted 175 people from ages 8 to 80 to a recent archaeological training dig at Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park near Scott, as reported in Wednesday’s Family section.

This year’s program, from June 6-20, attracted a diverse group of kindred spirits. As in years past, the diggers came from all walks of life — grandmothers, firefighters, real estate brokers, nurses, retirees, college students, grade school kids, soccer moms and state employees — all attempting to help answer questions about a band of early Americans about whom little is known.
