— 100 YEARS AGO June 22, 1910

Gabe Pratt, chief of police, has been notified to arrest all persons who are guilty of violation of the ordinance requiring all grass and weeds cut down in or about the premises, the cleaning up of alleys, removal of all rubbish and the filling or draining of all cesspools within five days from the date of the passage of the ordinance. This ordinance is to take effect immediately, and according to Chief Pratt, will be enforced rigidly.

50 YEARS AGO June 22, 1960

A TITAN intercontinental ballistic missile complex will be constructed in the Greater Little Rock area, Congressman Dale Alford announced today. The installation - to include 18 underground launch sites - will be built in the vicinity of Little Rock Air Force Base, and is expected to cost about $80 million. Approximately 1,200 men are to be assigned to the complex, according to a letter Dr. Alford has received from the secretary of the Air Force.

25 YEARS AGO June 22, 1985

The state Public Service Commission staff said Friday there was no “legal, economic or ethical justification” for accepting the latest Grand Gulf settlement offer of Arkansas Power & Light Co. and its parent firm, Middle South Utilities Inc. Staff members also said they intend to prove in the second half of AP&L’s current rate case that Arkansas ratepayers should not be held liable for the “spectacular corporate blunder” represented by the $3.5 billion nuclear power plant at Port Gibson, Miss.

The Angel Flight helicopter team’s landing pad has been lifted to new heights. Arkansas Children’s Hospital unveiled its new, $1.075 million heliport to the public on Wednesday, though it began using it last week. Composed of two 45-foot wide platforms on the building’s roof, the heliport will allow Angel Flight - part of the Children’s Hospital transport team - to gather patients in a safer, more timely manner.
