Short-handed Travs hammered at home

— The Arkansas Travelers could have used Brian Walker - or anyone else - in Monday’s 11-4 loss to the Springfield Cardinals before 3,701 at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.

Walker’s retirement Monday left Arkansas with one active catcher on the roster, Alberto Rosario. The Travelers were also without second baseman Ryan Mount, who is nursing an arm injury that has yet to be diagnosed.

Topping it off, outfielder Jeremy Moore left shortly after the start of the game with flu-like symptoms that may have been due to the mid-90s heat. At one point, Arkansas was so short-handed that 5-9 middle infielder Ivan Contreras was playing first base.

Bobby Magallanes said he’d never seen a night like that in his four seasons managing the Travelers.

“Tonight was the worst one,” Magallanes said. “We didn’t have a healthy player on the bench today. It was rough, but we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do.”
