Doctor asks to limit evidence in bomb case

— Attorneys for the Pope County doctor charged in the bombing that hurt the state medical board chairman want a federal judge to bar prosecutors from talking about narcotics the doctor may have possessed.

In court filings this week, attorneys for Dr. Randeep Mann ask that U.S. District Judge Brian Miller not allow prosecutors to introduce evidence about prescription drugs that Mann allegedly distributed between 2006 and 2009.

FILE - This photo released Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009 by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office shows Dr. Randeep Mann. A grand jury on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 indicted Mann in the 2009 car bomb attack that wounded the head of Arkansas Medical Board.

The doctor faces no drug charges. He’s charged in the February 2009 bombing that hurt Dr. Trent Pierce, and also faces illegal weapons charges. Attorneys for Mann say introducing evidence about drugs is irrelevant and would unfairly prejudice the jury.

Prosecutors say details of the drugs are evidence of Mann’s motive: as retaliation against the medical board.

The case goes to trial next month.
