INTERLEAGUE: Holliday leads way as Cards hit four home runs

— Matt Holliday brought his hitting tear to Toronto, connecting for one of four home runs by the St. Louis Cardinals in a 9-4 victory over the Blue Jays on Tuesday night.

Felipe Lopez, Yadier Molina and pinch hitter Colby Rasmus, who was in an 0-for-17 slump, also hit home runs for the Cardinals to back rookie left-hander Jaime Garcia (7-3).

Holliday was selected National League player of the week after hitting .435 (10 for 23) with 4 home runs and 8 RBI from June 14-20. He kept his streak going against the Blue Jays with a single in the first inning, a home run in the third and a double in the fifth. He finished 3 for 5 with two RBI.

Garcia allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 6 innings. He walked none and struck out four. Kyle McClellan pitched 1 1 /3 innings of relief, Trever Miller got two outs and Mitchell Boggs worked the ninth.

Molina hit a home run in the second, Rasmus a two-run drive in the eighth and Lopez, a former Blue Jay, a shot in the ninth.

Jose Bautista hit two home runs, including a two-run shot, for Toronto, giving him a major league-high 20.

Casey McGehee hit a three-run home run and rookie closer John Axford got his fifth consecutive save as host Milwaukee beat Minnesota.

RANGERS 6, PIRATES 3

Josh Hamilton extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a home run and a double and Julio Borbon hit a three-run home run as host Texas beat Pittsburgh for its ninth consecutive victory.

NATIONALS 4, ROYALS 3

Josh Willingham hit a home run and two doubles and Adam Dunn hit a home run as host Washington handed Kansas Cityits fifth consecutive loss.

PHILLIES 2, INDIANS 1

Jamie Moyer (8-6) gave up two hits, including Russell Branyan’s 10th home run, in eight innings to earn victory No. 266 as host Philadelphia beat Cleveland. The47-year-old left-hander recorded 14 of his 24 outs on ground balls. J.C. Romero relieved Moyer for the ninth but was replaced by Brad Lidge when Cleveland put runners on first and second with one out. Lidge struck out Austin Kearns and Jhonny Peralta for his fifth save in six tries.

MARLINS 10, ORIOLES 4

Hanley Ramirez, who sat out Sunday’s game with a tight right hamstring, had 3 hits and 3 RBI and Anibal Sanchez (7-4) allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in 6 1 /3 innings as Florida beat host Baltimore for its second consecutive victory.

PADRES 2, RAYS 1

Mat Latos (8-4) allowed 3 hits in 7 scoreless innings, struck out 8 and walked 1 in improving to 7-1 over his past 9 starts as San Diego beat host Tampa Bay.

WHITE SOX 9, BRAVES 6

John Danks (7-5) trailed 3-0 before retiring 15 of the last 18 batters he faced and ended up allowing six hits in seven innings to win his third consecutive start as host Chicago got its seventh victory in a row and ended Atlanta’s five-game winning streak.

ROCKIES 2, RED SOX 1

Jhoulys Chacin (4-6) pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning as host Colorado beat Jon Lester (8-3) and Boston. Chacin, who ended a personal four-game losingstreak, walked 5 and allowed 4 singles in 6 2 /3 innings. Lester, in his first trip to Coors Field since winning Game 4 to clinch Boston’s 2007 World Series title, lost for the first time since April 18 despite allowing just 1 earned run and 6 hits - all singles - in 6 innings.

METS 14, TIGERS 6

Angel Pagan, subbing in center field all season for injured Carlos Beltran, finished a home run shy of the cycle and had four RBI and David Wright reached base five times and scored three runs as host New York beat Detroit. Wright had two singles, an RBI double, a sacrifice fly and two walks.

National League GIANTS 3, ASTROS 1 Tim Lincecum (8-2) outpitched Roy Oswalt (5-9) as San Francisco won for the seventh consecutive time over host Houston, which lost its fifth in a row overall. It was Lincecum’s third victory of the year against the Astros. He improved to 5-0 in eight career outings against them. Lincecum allowed 7 hits and no earned runs over 8 innings, struck out 7 and walked 2. Brian Wilson pitched a perfect ninth for his 20th save in 22 chances. Oswalt yielded 6 hits and 2 runs and struck out 5 in 7 innings.
