— 100 YEARS AGO June 23, 1910

The attorney general has rendered an opinion to the effect that a retailer and wholesaler cannot have an understanding by which the latter pays for liquor advertisements in dry territory without violating the law. The opinion was rendered at the request of the prosecuting attorney of Miller County, the question arising over an advertisement in a Texarkana newspaper in which a wholesaler advertises his liquor and the distributor of the same, who is located at Fulton.

50 YEARS AGO June 23, 1960

Arkansas and Little Rock leaders were jubilant today over the announced proposal for an $80 million Titan II missile complex in the vicinity of Little Rock Air Force Base. Without exception, comments from officials centered around what the project will mean to the local economy. Some pointed out that it assures the permanency of LRAFB.

Chemical companies are not alone in their dealings with hazardous wastes. Twenty-eight companies are listed by the state Department of Pollution Control and Ecology as having been required to obtain permits for handling hazardous wastes, and their products range from space-age electronics to eye shadow. That list should not be considered exhaustive. These are only companies that have asked Pollution Control for the necessary permits to store, treat or dispose of hazardous wastes on their property.

A $21 million complex that combines loft apartments with retail stores and commercial offices opened its first section Thursday as the latest addition to Little Rock’s downtown revitalization.The three-building project includes 30,000 square feet for restaurants and shops on the ground floors, with 145 loft apartments above and underground parking for residents. The project includes three structures at the corner of Scott and Markham streets listed on the National Register of Historic Places: the 1924 Wallace building, the 1920 Beal and Burrow building and the 1920 Democrat Printing and Lithograph building.
