— Poll: Vick top dog for haters

Who’s the most disliked person in sports?

According to a poll on Forbes.

com, Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Michael Vick hasn’t been forgiven for his involvement in dogfighting, leading the way at 69 percent.

It’s the second year that Vick topped the survey, conducted by E-Poll Market Research, based on a representative sample of 1,100 people nationwide, ages 13 and older.

Right behind Vick at 66 percent was Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. He was followed by Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (57 percent), golfer Tigers Woods and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones (53 percent), St. Louis Cardinals hitting coach Mark McGwire (48), free-agent receiver Terrell Owens (47), New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (45), guard AllenIverson (45) and Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas (44).

Of Jones, the former Arkansas Razorback from North Little Rock, Forbes.com wrote: “Like Oakland’s Al Davis, Jones is known as a maverick owner who has clashed with the league and with his coaches. Outside the home market, where winning tops all, fans don’t generally take to boat-rockers.”Slick move

“The Class A Brevard (Fla.) County Manatees have removed the term ‘batting practice’ - you know, BP - from their vocabulary because of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and now call it ‘hitting rehearsal,’ ” writes Dwight Perry of The Seattle Times. “There goes any hope of seeing Oil Can Boyd Appreciation Night.” Burn notice

Staples Center’s owner decided to pick up the fare.

After a cabbie’s taxi was burned by a mob when violence erupted near the arena following the Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 7 victory in the NBA Finals last week, AEG presented Abraham Teferi with a check Monday for $10,000.

“On behalf of all the knuckleheads, we apologize, and hopefully that helps you get on your feet a little bit,” AEG Chief Executive Officer Tim Leiweke told the cabbie, a 41-year-old Ethiopian immigrant whose taxi was covered by the cab company’s insurance. “We’re asking everyone to use Abraham as an example of how we can celebrate together without having to go burn things up.”Looks don’t hurt

Venus Williams has moved on to a new fashion inspiration: Tina Turner.

After causing a stir at the French Open last month with a black lace dress she described as having the “illusion of bareness,” Williams showed up at Wimbledon on Monday with a more conservative white outfit filled with frills and called it a tribute to Turner.

“Obviously she’s just an amazing, amazing artist, just a survivor. She reinvented herself.

Plus she looks great,” Williams said.Quote of the day
