Special primary set for Stone County sheriff

— Stone County voters will get a redo in picking a Democratic nominee for sheriff.

Sheriff Todd Hudspeth and challenger Lance Bonds will face each other again in a special primary election on Aug. 3 after the same number of votes — 1,383 — were cast for each in the June 8 runoff.

Gov. Mike Beebe on Wednesday called the special primary after he was officially notified by the Democratic Party of the tie between Hudspeth and Bonds. Beebe’s proclamation said the filing period for the election would begin Friday and end a week later on July 2.

The winner of the Aug. 3 election will meet Republican nominee William Russ Aiken on the November ballot.
