Taekwondo World Championships come to town

— Thousands of martial arts enthusiasts from around the world are converging on Little Rock for this weekend’s American Taekwondo Association’s annual Songahm Taekwondo World Championships, as reported in Thursday’s Arkansas Weekend section.

Official opening ceremonies featuring performances by demonstration teams and finalists start at 6 p.m. Friday at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. Tickets are $21.60. The tournament itself takes place at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. Hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Sunday. Admission Thursday and Friday is free; Saturday and Sunday, it’s $10, free for ages 6 and under.

For something less strenuous, art by local artists in a variety of price ranges can be found at “A Taste of Art and Wine.” This art show and sale is presented by The Art Group cooperative at 10840 Maumelle Blvd. in North Little Rock. Show hours are 6-9 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
