'Any pinhead' can run against Washington, Elliott tells group

Democrat Joyce Elliott says she’s not running against Washington as she seeks a congressional seat in central Arkansas.

Elliott told members of the Political Animals Club on Thursday that “any pinhead” can campaign on the idea of running against Washington. Elliott is running against Republican Tim Griffin, a former interim United States attorney who worked in the Bush White House.

Elliott is a state senator from Little Rock. She told the club at its lunch meeting to be wary of candidates who say they’re not politicians. The key, Elliott said, is finding candidates who are good politicians.

Elliott also defended the use of earmarks to fund projects and said she wouldn’t support a ban on them. Instead, Elliott said Congress should rely on members’ judgment and common sense.
