Arkadelphia man charged in slaying

— Arkadelphia police have arrested a man they say gunned down another man in an apartment complex late Tuesday.

Deundrio L. Green, 23, of Arkadelphia was jailed on charges of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police say he shot Darian Garland, 30, of Gurdon in the chest at the Ross Apartments on North 20th Street about 11:30 p.m.

Garland’s brother and Green got into a fight earlier that night and were feuding over a woman, Sgt. Roy Bethell said. Why Garland was targeted in the shooting was unclear, he said.

He said the killing is the first homicide in the Clark County city since 2004, when an elderly woman was shot to death in her home as two teenagers attempted to steal her Cadillac.
