NLR reports dip in its tax revenue

— June revenue from North Little Rock’s city sales tax fell short of last June’s totals by $244, the 20th month of the past 21 for the city to earn less than the corresponding month for the year before, figures released Wednesday showed.

North Little Rock’s 1-percent city sales tax brought in $1,205,504, just below the $1,205,748 received in June 2009. The figure is for sales tax collected during April, because the city receives its tax revenue back from the state two months behind actual sales.

Figures for April’s sales were received Wednesday afternoon, city Finance Director Bob Sisson said.

In May, North Little Rock’s sales-tax receipts reached $1,380,280, or $105,431 higher than in May 2009.

Last month was the first time since September 2008 that North Little Rock’s city sales-tax revenue has been above the total for the same month from the previous year.

North Little Rock’s city sales tax makes up more than one-fifth of city revenue in the city’s $53.49 million general fund that pays for salaries, public safety and city services such as garbage collection.
